Courses

 

The courses in the Programme consist of basic, undergraduate and master`s level courses, and spezialisation courses for professionals and teachers. The courses are run separately by each university in the network. Students register at their home university, while course material is produced and distributed within the Programme network.

During 2003, more than 100 universities registered nearly 8.400 students in total Arrangements such as video-, and audioconferecing and the internet are bridging the student groups in the Baltic region.

Courses at the Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz (FH) are in preparation on „Sustainability and Environmental Management“ (each autumn) and on „Sustainable Chemistry and Biotechnology“ (not before summer 2006). You may register for available BUP-courses directly via the BUP-Site.

  • Environmental Science (7,5 ECTS credits)
    The course on environmental science in the Baltic Sea region has four parts. It provides a background on environmental studies and describes the effect of the human society on the environment. Furthermore, it covers how the society deals with environmental impact and addresses the issue on what we need to do  The course is an excellent background for studying both the Baltic University Programme's undergraduate and graduate courses on sustainable development.

  • The Baltic Sea Environment (7,5 ECTS credits)
    The course describes the environmental situation of the Baltic Sea and its drainage area. The course.conveys an overview of important topics for understanding and improving the environmental situation.

  • The Peoples of the Baltic (7,5 ECTS credits)
    The course focuses on topics of our common culture, history and contemporary situation. The course addresses questions on minorities, human rights, democracy and security.

  • A Sustainable Baltic Region (7,5 ECTS credits)
    Deals with issues of sustainable use and management of natural resources. Long-term protection of our.environment and sustainable organization of human societies from the level of households to those of.municipalities, cities and countries are other themes in the course.

  • The Baltic Sea Region – Cultures, Politics, Societies (15 ECTS credits)
    The course treats the Baltic Sea region and its societies under eight headings: history, culture, languages,.democracy, multiculturality, social conditions, economics, and security. The course focuses on the conditions.in the region after the systems change in 1989/91, and regional development with special emphasis on.democracy, human rights, and economics.

  • Sustainable Water Management (15 ECTS credits)
    The course is made up of three Master's level courses. The aim of the whole course is to give the students.a professional knowledge of our water resources, their present use and management, and also on practices of sustainable water management. Knowledge within the fields of earth science, agronomy, forestry or.environmental engineering is a prerequisite. More information (http://www.balticuniv.uu.se/swm/)

  • Sustainable Community Development and Urban Planning (15 ECTS credits)
    The course is made up of three Master's level courses on urban planning in the Baltic Sea region. The courses are highly interdisciplinary, problem oriented and preparatory for a professional career. 

  • Environmental Management (20 ECTS credits)
    The course is made up of four Master's level courses on environmental management. The courses addresses  management in all kinds of organizations. It is well adapted for competence development for professionals.
